And the winner of the 2026 Canadian Screen Award goes to...

TOM THIRD! Canada's cinema and television elite converged on the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto last week to honour its Academy award winners. We're proud to announce that composer Tom Third won 'Best Original Music in a Feature Length Documentary' for his fabulous score to Nicole Bazuin's MODERN WHORE. 

This is Tom's 2nd CSA win, he has 8 other nominations. Core composers received a total of 7 nominations this year. Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees.

Matt Rogers received 2 nominations for his scores to WORLDBREAKER and HOW TO LOSE A POPULARITY CONTEST; Hamish Thompson for his score to AINSLEY MACGREGOR MYSTERIES: A CASE FOR THE WATCHMAKER; Jeff Tymoschuk for his score to TIME HELMET; Amanda Cawley for her score to CHARLIE IS NOT A BOY; and Christopher Nickel for his score to SANDPIPERS' LAST SUPPER.

Big congrats to Toronto's Aircraft Pictures and Ireland's Cartoon Saloon!!! 

As reported in Playback, JULIAN will be heading Canada's line-up at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this year. Scored by Core composer LA-NAI GABRIEL, and written by Dominican-American writer juliany taveras, Julián is based on U.S. author Jessica Love’s picture book "Julián is a Mermaid". The film follows a seven-year-old boy who, inspired by his grandmother’s storytelling, undertakes a magical mental voyage in which he transforms the streets of Brooklyn into the mystical depths of the sea.l

Pietra Brettkelly's film CROCODILE will see its USA premiere at The Tribeca Festival June 5, 6, and 8. A huge hit, the film sold out quickly at its world premiere in Berlin earlier this year. 

Scored by Core composer TOM THIRD, the film follows a young Nigerian art collective creating DIY sci-fi films with homemade equipment, documenting their lives while exploring fantastical alternate realities. An energetic celebration of creativity and resourceful storytelling.
