Terry Benn
Terry Benn is a Canadian film and TV composer, record producer, and guitarist whose work primarily lives in the darker worlds of genre storytelling, horror, psychological thrillers, and tense, atmospheric drama. After years touring in rock and punk bands, he moved behind the console, producing records in multiple genres for over a decade before being introduced to the world of scoring in 2015. In 2020, Terry began transitioning to film and TV scoring, working closely with composer Michelle Osis. Together, they’ve scored nine feature films, including CARVED (Dir. Justin Harding, Hulu/Disney+), T.REX (Dir. David Clark, narrated by Sam Neill, IMAX), DARK MATCH (Dir. Lowell Dean, Shudder), award-winning SWAY (Dirs. Hamilton X Ramelan), THIS TOO SHALL PASS (Dir. Rob Grant), ABANDONED (Dir. Spencer Squire, starring Emma Roberts and Michael Shannon), FIXATION (Dir. Mercedes Bryce Morgan, premiered at TIFF), DIGITAL TSUNAMI (White Pine Pictures), and NIGHT OF THE REAPER (Dir. Brandon Christensen, Shudder). His recent TV credits include THE HAUNTED MUSEUM, seasons 1 and 2 (Discovery), and URBAN LEGEND (Discovery).
Terry combines both experimental and traditional techniques across guitar, synthesis, and orchestral instruments, with an intuitive sense for understanding a director’s vision. His years of album production allowed him to enter the world of scoring with sharp technical skills, a long history of experimentation, and a heightened attention to detail. He crafts dark, immersive, emotionally driven soundscapes that heighten tension, deepen both character and environment, and always serve the picture above all else.
